ABOUT THE ARTIST

Brian David Smith has been a professional artist and educator for over thirty years and his paintings can be found in numerous corporate and private collections throughout the USA. His art explores the themes of memory, process, and the suggestion of place.
Smith considers the act of painting a vital experience and creates from an intuitive base to form a sense of unity and personal language in each work. Bold shapes and colors dominate the compositional schemes. Smith's responses to the elements of nature and his appreciation for European and American art, particularly Modernist painting, inspire his use of light, space, color, and texture. The result is a dream-like world that conveys the landscape and the figure in conspicuous and abstract ways.
The relationships between unique and colorful forms set the emotional tone for each painting while the inherently sensuous qualities of paint create an array of arresting optical effects.
