ABOUT THE ARTIST

Smith Head Shot.JPG

Brian David Smith's art explores themes of memory, process, and the suggestion of place.  He has been a professional artist and educator for over thirty years and his paintings can be found in numerous corporate and private collections throughout the USA.

Smith considers the act of painting to be a vital experience and creates from an intuitive base.  Bold shapes and colors dominate the compositional schemes of his art.  His responses to nature and appreciation for European and American art, particularly Modernist painting, inspire qualities of light, space, texture, unity, and personal logic in each work.  The result is a dream-like world that conveys the landscape and the figure in conspicuous and abstract ways.

The relationships between unique and colorful forms sets the emotional tone for each painting while the inherently sensuous qualities of paint create an array of arresting optical effects.

Smith's next solo exhibition will be September 6 - October 12th at the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis, MO.
